Abnormal Pap Smear During Pregnancy
I just got the results of the pap smear that I had at my first prenatal appointment. This is the first time I have ever had an abnormal result. My doctor wants to do a few more tests to evaluate the situation. What can I expect and what are the risks to my baby?

I am surely not an expert in this area and I would say that first of all you should go back to your doctor and ask him all the questions you are now worrying about (even the most strange or embarassing ones!). One of my friends also had a abnormal result but was told that it most likely washes away while giving birth....not sure what to think of this myself, so again, go and ask your doctor. You are not the only one comfronted with this problem so I am sure he will be able to help you with this best.

THE FURTHER TEST EVALUATION WILL DETERMINE WHICH WAY TO GO. IT’S A DECIDING FACTOR WHETHER TO TREAT IT NOW OR DELAY ANY TREATMENT UNTIL YOU GIVE BIRTH. THERE ARE PROBABLY TWO OR HAS TWO WAYS: CERVICAL BIOPSY OR THE INTERNAL BIOPSY. IF AND WHEN YOU’RE DOCTOR GOES FOR THE FIRST ONE SURELY IT WILL NOT AFFECT YOUR BABY. THERE WILL BE A LITTLE BLEEDING OUTSIDE OF YOUR CERVIX THOUGH. HOWEVER, IF YOUR DOCTOR GOES FOR THE 2ND OPTION YOU MIGHT AS WELL DISCUSS THIS THOROUGHLY WITH YOUR DOCTOR.

Having an abnormal smear doesnot mean you have cancer. It just means that some cells in your vagina are abnormal or dysplastic. Your doctor will advise you a colposcopy which is visualising your vagina and cervix . Having an abnormal Pap smear does not pose a risk to your baby.
