How Long Is It Necessary To Have A Child In A Carseat?

My 4 year old is very tall for his age. It doesn't seem like he is comfortable for him to be in the 5 point seat belt in his car seat anymore. How long is it necessary to keep a child in a car seat?

The laws for children and car seats will vary from state to state. I know that they go on the height and weight of the child to determine when they no longer have to be in a car seat. They use to go by the child's age but they no longer use that method. I would suggest that you go to your local Sheriff's office to get the latest car seat laws for your area.
