Hair Permanents And Coloring
|
I kept my hair permed and colored before I was pregnant. My hair has started to grow out and I am concerned that the chemicals used for these treatments may be harmful to my baby. Is it okay to get my hair permed and colored while I am pregnant?

Monday 15th of February 2010 01:46:13 AM I have never heard of hair colorants or perming chemicals being harmful to the baby. I am sure that it would be fine to continue in your usual way. If you are worried, you could always bring up the matter with your doctor. There is no harm in asking, and it will put your concerns to rest.

Wednesday 17th of February 2010 10:22:20 PM Yes, it is safe for your baby to color your hair while you are pregnant. I would just be mindful of the smells and make sure that they don't make you sick to your stomach. Just keep in mind that your body changes during pregnancy and sometimes when you try to perm or color your hair while you are pregnant it can turn funny colors.

Thursday 18th of February 2010 07:09:30 AM The jury is out on most hair colourants being safe to use in pregnancy, although it isnt recommended as enough studies haven't been done into the effects on the baby. It is better to err on the side of caution and avoid colouring/perming hair in the first trimester. If you must colour your hair, use semi-permanents and those with the least amount of chemicals in it as possible. You could try using henna instead - natural and no risk to your baby at all.

Friday 19th of February 2010 10:36:10 PM I continued to color my hair during pregnancies. If you get it done by a professional colorist you should mention it and if you do it at home, please have a look on the instruction leaflet. Most brands do mention that their products are safe to use during pregnancy. Alternatively you could go to the hairdresser and get yourself a new cut that does not require a perm or coloring.

Sunday 21st of February 2010 02:38:57 PM Not permed nor colored! they will penetrate the skin of your head and the amoniac which is kind of toxic will enter to your thin vessel of blood.so from there to the baby.
It is not very safe to do that, so for the sake of your child you should stop it for awhile.
YOu could arrange you after it.after breast feeding period. It is recommended to be avoided then too.

Thursday 4th of March 2010 03:40:59 AM Why not indulge? If it will make you feel more beautiful, why not? But of course do it with caution. Doctors has different view on hair color considering that chemicals can pass through blood stream on to your baby. To play it safe why not just use a highlight on your hair so that when they put on the treatment it won't be directly on the scalp. And while you're at it, have it just trimmed instead of hair permed because hair perming is definitely a no.
