How Long Do You Have To Name Your Baby After He's Born?
My husband and I have come up with a list of names for boys and girls that we like. We've decided that we don't want to find out the gender of our little treasure before birth. We also don't want to name the baby until we meet him or her. How long do we have to give the baby a name after he or she is born?

By law, births must be registered within 6 weeks, so this is the time frame that you need to go by when considering to name your baby. It's awkward not having a name for your baby, especially when people come to visit. I understand the reasoning for not wanting to name your baby until you meet them - perhaps have a list of potential names so that when he or she does come along, it is easier to name them.

I don't think there is any limit to how long you wait to name your baby. I know someone who hadn't officially named their baby until he was nearly a year old. The only thing you have to worry about is submitting the paperwork to the authorities. When you are in the hospital, they help you to submit the birth certificate. If you want to wait to name your baby, make sure you know where to send the information.

It is much better to give a new born baby a name immediately after birth. In order not to take too much time in deciding, the couples should make a list of all names that they like whether for a boy or for a girl so that by the time the baby is born, they could immediately select a name for their baby.
