Constipation
|
I have been having a hard time with constipation. My doctor suggested that I drink more water. I have significantly increased my water intake with very few results. There are so many over-the-counter laxatives, how do I know which ones are safe?

Wednesday 17th of February 2010 06:29:15 AM My instant remedy for constipation when I was pregnant was eating papaya and other fiber rich fruits before I take in solid food. It helps in digestion and yes plenty of water and fruit juices. I have tried though one time suppository tablets but it was awful feeling, didn't want to do it again. Prevention is better than cure so better have healthy habit of eating fiber rich food.

Thursday 4th of March 2010 03:36:08 AM Drinking medicine for constipation is not all there is oftentimes it aggravates the situation more. If I were you, I would drink a lot of water and eat more papaya, prunes, dates, raisins and pineapple. Lessening your meat in take will also help you on this. Go for leafy veggies instead along with these fruits that I just mentioned, regularly.

Wednesday 17th of February 2010 03:44:16 PM I used milk of magnesia as needed, and it was safe. but it is easy to become dependent on an over the counter laxative. Try natural ways of combating constipation -prunes and prune juice, lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grain cereals an bread, as these provide dietary fibre with help the faeces to retain water and not get dry and hard.

Wednesday 17th of February 2010 09:37:21 PM This is a very big problem for most pregnant women. You want to make sure that you choose a laxative that is not a stimulant. It's recommended that you go with a stool softener. My doctor recommended Colace. You can buy it at your local pharmacy and it works. It usually takes a couple of days to take effect but you will get some relief.

Thursday 18th of February 2010 06:49:02 AM Using a product such as fybogel is perfectly safe during preganancy. It is made from natural ingrediants that help to move things along in your bowels. You can also take a probiotic yogurt drink everyday and eat yogurts such as activia which also help to get things going. Drink lots of fluid and eat plenty of fruit and veg. Avoid processed food and things made from white flour. And more importantly, do not strain whilst going as this will give you piles.
