The Daycare Center Wants Me To Pay For Days That My Son Isn't There.
I finally found a daycare center that I like but they want me to sign a contract the guarantees that I will pay them for 5 days a week year round. I am a school teacher and have a lot of time off throughout the year including 3 months in the summer. Is it standard to pay a daycare center for time where they aren't caring for my child?

yes there is normal as long as you set up with them the contract they charge the prices around even on holidays considering that they need to make sure the space that your baby occupie in the daycare will not be taken by other kid and it has a cost as well, but may you can try do deals based on months like short contracts that covers just some months and them you renew them after as you wish may it will take you out of pay the period as your baby is not around.

I run my own daycare and I would give a break in the summer months, maybe a from full time to part time.Or if you will be off durning the summer and wont bring the kids at all I would only charge two weeks fee to hold your spot. I hope this helps.

From what I know, yes. They have to guarantee hours and income for their employees the same as any other company. A bummer, but true :(

I am the Director at Ponderosa Montessori in South San Francisco. Most day care settings require year-round payment. However, at Ponderosa Montessori, we do not charge parents for school holidays or school vacation. When parents are on vacation, but our facility is still opened, we ask for a small portion of the child's regular tuition in order to reserve the child's space while he/she is on vacation. We have a very "parent friendly" contract. We also do not charge extra fees for before and after school care.

It depends on state to state and day care to day care also so before going to take the admission for your baby in daycare check few things about the day care like Will you have to pay if the child does not attend the for few days, what is the training of the staff, what is the ratio of children per teacher

Unfortunately, yes. Usually the first 2 or 3 weeks of your baby in a daycare center are take as a period of "adaptation" or "adjustment", when the baby goes only for one or two hours, but you have to pay the 100% of the time. Also in vacances. I donīt know if itīs a law, but it is certainly usual for these places.
