We Want To Get Our Cat Used To Not Going In The Nursery.
Our cat is 4 years old. She has always had free reign of the house. We've been working on the nursery and she likes to come in and lay in the bassinet. How can we teach her not to come into the room?

try teach your cat using the way to show what he can not behave, dont by showing an appropiate behavior to him, always when he does something that is not what you guys want, don't shout or beat him, just say no or put the hands on his face like showing a barrer to him, in that way he will get used that is not what he or she would been doing, but it will just work when you are around, and another thing is make some behavoir be impossible to be done, as long as she does not find a way to get into the baby bedroom she will probaby dont get even close to lay on the bassinet. Cheers.

Cats Are naturally curious and will want to be where you are. They also do not like closed doors (I have one that knows how to open a closed door) but frequent "No" and a treat when she stays out will help. Place something like foil in the bassinet or over it. Cats do not like foil and it is used successfully to keep them off furniture. Do not make the kitty feel abandoned or unwanted. Let it be curious and just say 'no' whenever it strays where you don't want it. Remember a treat and a pat on the head when it does something you approve of.

you have to keep the door shut, and never let her in, she should not be in the bassinet, otherwise she could when the baby is asleep in there. You need to start shooing her out of the room. I had the same problem with my cat, but now she lays outside the bedroom door at night whilst the door is shut and both my boys are alseep in bed, before my baby was born she used to sleep on the end of my eldest sons bed, but I was worried about her sleeping in the crib with my baby, as much as you dont want to be mean to the cat, you have to make her understand that room is out of bounds, and after a few times, she will get the message, but if you are out you must keep the door shut, so she cannot go in there whilst you are out.
