it depends from person to person. there are person that have no pains until they are 6-7 cm dilated and there are some who feels this dilatating process very painfully.I did! Bu I saw in hospital a lot of women that came to deliver without having any pain at all. The pain is like in premenstrual, hen when you ae about 8 dilatated they begun a little bit harder, then 10 is bad!no deadly but for 20-30 minute before expulsation te pains are very intense. if you exercise the breatings you will be fine. It is nothing you can not overcome! good luck!

hello there the labor and delivery works different to each women, have some that the dilatation procces takes weeks, others even a montyh, and have some that have it in a day, so there are different ways to each woman, the cervical dilatation occur first than the water broke and you get the labor job.

In order to understand labor its divided to 3 stages 1.The first stage begin with the onset of labor and ends with full cervical dilation.10cm.This first stage is where the most of the mother's time is spend in labor and waiting for cervix to dilate. 2.The second stage is the interval between full dilation and delivery of infant and delivery of placenta. 3. The third final stage is between the delivery of infant and delivery of placenta.

I know that you're very excited now that you'll soon be carrying in your arms the most awaited baby you've been carrying for months. There are what they call terms or guides in naming or staging cervical dilatation. When the cervix if 0-3 cm., this is what they call latent phase; when cervix is at 4-7 cm., this is active labor; 8-10 cm., transition and 10 cm. is what they call complete or delivery is already taking place. Hope these facts give you the idea on what's to come. Take care!
