My Ob Recommends A Perinatologist
|
I was diagnosed with preeclampsia during my first pregnancy. Now, I'm pregnant with my second child and my obstetrician is recommending that I see a perinatologist. Why do I need to see a specialist?

Wednesday 17th of February 2010 02:35:08 AM I guess he is recommending you to see a specialist for a reason. As you had problems in your first pregnancy as severe as preeclampsia I guess you rather not go through that again. By seeing a perinatologist who can keep a very close eye on you and your baby I would feel a lot more secure and less worried about getting preeclampsia again.

Thursday 18th of February 2010 06:28:06 AM You need a specialist to ensure that it doesnt happen again. Not just that, a specialist will monitor you for signs of pre-eclampsia throughout your pregnancy and will treat you before things get out of hand. Pre-eclampsia is life threatening to both mother and child and so it is always best to err on the side of caution. Every pregnancy is different and hopefully you will have a better experience this time.

Saturday 27th of February 2010 11:59:36 PM Since you were diagnosed with preeclampsia during your first pregnancy, then you are probably already aware of the dangers this condition can present for both you and your child.
Pregnant women who have had a previous history of preeclampsia are at risk of aquiring it again during their next pregnancies.
No doubt, it is for the safety of you and your baby, that your obstetrician is recommending that you see a perinatologist - which is essentially an obsterician who provides speciality care for mothers who experience high-risk pregnancies.
In the event problems similar to ones you may have experienced in your previous pregnancy arises, a perinatologist will be better equipped to take care of you and your baby.

Sunday 28th of February 2010 04:21:20 AM A PERINATOLOGIST IS A SPECIALIST WHO TAKES CARE OF THE UNBORN BABY AS WELL AS HOW THE MOTHER SHOULD TAKE CARE OF HER BABY WHILE IN THE WOMB. PREECLAMPSIA IS A DELICATE SITUATION OF A MOTHER WITH UNBORN CHILD IN HER BELLY. YOUR OB-GENE WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU TO AVOID THIS RECURRENCE WHILE THE PERINATOLOGIST WILL TAKE OF THE UNBORN BABY WHILE STILL IN YOUR WOMB UNTIL SHE/HE COMES OUT IN THE WORLD
