Food Aversions
|
Now that I'm pregnant, I am finding that I no longer desire some of my favorite foods. For example, before pregnancy I loved mushrooms. But now, the thought of them makes my stomach turn. Is this normal?

Wednesday 17th of February 2010 05:41:27 PM Very! Every woman is different in terms of cravings and aversions. It is nature's way of making you avoid foods you do not need. In my second pregnancy, I couldn't eat much as my nausea was terrible, and spicy food was totally off the menu as it gave me terrible tummy ache. It was my body's way of telling me what I didn't need. Also, during both of my pregnancies, I had an addiction to dairy, and a blood test later on confirmed I was low on calcium - so my body was craving diary as a way of getting my calcium levels up. Eat what you fancy as long as its not too unhealthy. If you are worried about getting the right nutrients, see your midwife who will tell you what to eat and what to avoid.

Thursday 18th of February 2010 05:14:49 AM Yes it is very much normal and don´t be bothered by your sudden change of `favorite foods`. On the contrary, you might be surprised to learn that you suddenly crave for foods you never liked before getting pregnant! Just give in to your ´cravings´as long as they are health foods and you eat them in moderation. They not only give you nourishment but they make your pregnancy easier and more comfortable.

Monday 15th of February 2010 01:36:00 AM Yes it it. As it is normal for pregnancy symptoms to include food cravings, it is also very normal to experience food aversions.
During my pregnancy during the most part of 2008, my food aversions were to anything that looked like it was a cow or a pig. Anything that was big chunks of meat, I hated. I hated the smell of the company cafeteria. I couldn't eat anything while smelling these things. As a carnivore, this was a weird phase in my life.

Thursday 4th of March 2010 03:29:59 AM Yes, this is normal. It's not the same for all pregnant women and the numbers of women who avert and crave food have little difference. Some studies show that your body is no longer in need of the nutrients coming from the averted food and so your body seeks for something else.

Wednesday 17th of February 2010 02:25:56 AM yes it is and probably more will come. Like I cannot stand garlic (raw or cooked) it makes me so sick, my husband is even no longer allowed to eat it. But on the other hand I am craving for citrus fruit, cant get enough of it, while I might have eaten the odd orange before but nothing like the quantities I am doing now. I guess it is our bodies telling us what they need or dont need.

Friday 19th of February 2010 03:48:17 PM yes, there is a normal behavior.I was a good smoker and after I have heard that I am pregnant I was puking only when I felt the smell of cigarette' smoke.it is something very strange but true and in the same time normal. The woman body changes so radically in pregnancy, that some times you feel you are not you!
but it will pass, and usually things are back on track after delivery.
take care!
