Meeting Dietary Needs With Morning Sickness
|
I am only in my eighth week of pregnancy and I am absolutely miserable with morning sickness throughout the day. I am afraid that I am not getting enough of the nutrients my baby needs. Can you recommend any nutritious foods that won't further aggravate my sensitive stomach?

Wednesday 3rd of March 2010 04:47:55 AM I sympathize with you as I was in the same situation until my 12th month. However, please understand that these are morning sickness, meaning it occur only in the morning specially when you just woke up and no intake yet. The food that you ate the day before has been digested, minerals and nutrients distributed out. So not to worry so much, it will stop sometimes. Also, divert to natural sources such as green leafy vegetables, fruits, livers and fish, sometimes it is best rather than the pills and all that.

Wednesday 17th of February 2010 02:02:46 AM I think it is a bit a process of trial and error. I am in the same boat as you at the moment. 8 weeks and got I wish the morning sickness would stop or at least be renamed as it lasts all day not only in the morning! Since last week (recommendation of a friend) I have a glass of water and a packet of dry crackers next to my bed and I eat/ drink some of it when I wake up (so before physically getting up) that seems to help a bit in 'drying up' my stomach and since two days I can actually keep in a piece of toast with jam. Later during the day rice and steamed fish or chicken with some steamed spinach or brocoli goes ok too. So a bit of a boring diet at the moment but it seems to go ok. I do take prenetal vitamin supplements as well to be sure. Good luck!

Wednesday 17th of February 2010 04:25:08 PM I have three children and I vomited every morning from the day I got pregnant until the day I gave birth. I was miserable! There is a medication that you can get from your doctor called Phenergan. This will help you with the extreme nausea. As long as you are taking your prenatal vitamins you are going to get all of the nutrients that your body needs. I would always just eat really slow and wait three hour after you wake up in the morning. When you first wake up your stomach has more acid in it which could cause you to feel sick.

Tuesday 16th of February 2010 08:43:26 PM Usually early pregnancy symptoms are annoying but youfll have to face it and you donft have a choice. The best food I can recommend is fruits and vegetables and egg yolk in the morning. I love those fruits with intense taste like super sour because it helps me with my metallic taste tongue. Donft forget your milk because your baby really needs the folic acid everyday for body and brain development.

Wednesday 17th of February 2010 03:14:58 PM After a rough pregnancy with my daughter, I learned how to manage my morning sickness eight years later with my son. I started off the day with a couple of saltines first, and this usually kept the nausea at bay. I avoided rich foods like curries and spices, and anything fried. These helped a lot. Yogurt calms the stomach, so you can try some. Granola also helps.
