Natural Sources Of Folic Acid
I do not like to take pills if I can avoid them. I have read that folic acid is very important during pregnancy. Can you recommend any natural sources of folic acid?

During your pregnancy, you have to take in more folic acid compared to your regular diet. There are lots of natural sources of folic acid such as lima beans, kidney beans, baked beans, different types of whole wheat bread and pastas, lentils, black-eyed peas, green peas. A deficiency in folic acid can cause growth and development problems for your babies and can even be a cause of premature abortion. Be sure to take in the recommended amount of folate in your diet.

There are pregnancy milk that is fortified with folic acid. So far the foods that I know who has lot of it are liver, egg yolk, legumes, beans, internals of chicken but if you eat too much of them youfll also have risk in UTI. So just take the milk everyday and you and your baby will be fine.

Yes it is indeed very important during pregnancy as it can help prevent certain abnormalities in the embryo. It can be found in natural sources such as green vegetables: brocoli, spinich, lettuce. Or fruits such as advocado, tomatoes and bananas and it can even be found in peanuts. Not sure how much of the above you should eat daily in order to get the recommended daily portion of Folic acid. I would say it is much easier to take a prenatal vitamine supplement that contains all vitamins needed during your pregnancy at the correct level.

Folic acid can be found in green leafy veggies like rhubarb, cauliflower, spinach, brussel sprouts, broccoli. In terms of food from animals, you can look at eggs - particularly the yolks, and if you can stand it, liver. Nuts and beans and other legumes also contain some folic acid, as well as cereals. A daily intake of orange juice contributes as well to your folic acid needs.

I hated taking my prenatal pills as well, but wanted what was best for my health. I tried to eat well just in case I missed a vitamin here or there. If you are looking for ways to add foods rich in folic acid to your diet then try eating vegetables (such as leafy greens), whole wheat, eggs, sunflower seeds, beans, and fruit will help. A good way to determine if you are getting enough folic acid for you and your baby is to talk with your doctor.

Green leafy vegetables, peanuts, wheat, avocado, tomatoes, oranges, bananas are some natural sources of folic acid. Chicken livers is also a good source. When I was pregnant I used to eat a lot of spinach, avocados, tomatoes and bananas. This is always included in my daily meal and because i have to take it daily I try different recipes without actually destroying the vitamins but most often than not I eat all these raw.
