I Am 35 Weeks And My Baby Bump Isn't Very Big.
|
I'm 35 weeks pregnant and my stomach is still pretty small. I'm not a particularly petite woman and the baby's father is kind of a big guy. My doctor has never said there was anything unusual about my small baby bump, but when I see my sister who is 31 weeks along, it concerns me. Her belly is HUGE. Is there something wrong, is my baby too small?

Tuesday 20th of April 2010 05:09:11 PM If there is any area of life in which a huge range of differences is completely normal, pregnancy has got to be the perfect example.
The size of your stomach during pregnancy, particularly the first, when skin and stomach muscles are more resistant to stretching, are a poor indicator of the size of your baby, the amount of amniotic fluid is a big factor to consider. The height of the mother (taller women may have smaller bumps), and the position of the baby can also have an effect.
Finally, for a developing baby, big is not necessarily best! There is a large range of healthy sizes for a baby, and too big is just as bad as too small. (This shouldn't worry your sister either...).
As an anecdote, when I attended an antenatal class for my first pregnancy, I was much smaller than the other women, despite being several months further along. And my child was born smack bang in the middle of the average weight.
If your doctor hasn't said anything, then there is probably nothing wrong.

Tuesday 16th of March 2010 06:02:39 AM hello dear, now you made me remind about myself, I had a kind of similar problem as you, but it started to change when I went to give birth. when i was pregnant i took till 6 months to my belly start show up, I was really worried coz i was counting the months to get a belly. I'm a petite women so I was thinking i would see my belly growing really soon, my mistake. I got pregnant i was 44Kg, when I got to reach 5 months I was with 48Kg but my belly was flat still so it was my concern coz I went to all my doctor appointments and since I waited my time other patients that were there waiting too asked me how many months i was, when i told them 5 they did not believe and it was really unbelievable to see month to month passing and my belly never changing. then finaly i reacxh 6 months and my belly started to show, and start get big and really huge at the end of my pregnancy, but when the day arrives and my water broke, when i got to the maternity all my huge belly had gone and i back to have a small bump. and i was thinking that my baby was going to be small but when she born i had the surprise she came completly health with 44 cm and 3.4kg. I can say for what i have experienced the belly size is not a big indicator about how is your pregnancy going, many big bellys are full of liquid. so as long as your doctor have not said anything don't worry. cheers.

Monday 5th of April 2010 07:47:07 PM There are other pregnant women that are not so bumpy. Hence, you must also consult this to your doctor. Please take note also of your weight, if it is normal then you should not worry about your small tummy. Sometimes if bump is not that big, it denotes that your baby is not big too. As such you will not find it difficult during child birth.
