What Is The Significance Of Stem Cells In Cord Blood?

I see advertisements on tv and in all the pregnancy magazines about cord blood banking. All I know about it is that the blood from the umbilical cord is saved for the stem cells. What makes the stem cells in cord blood so important?

Friday 12th of February 2010 03:34:43 PM the cell from the cord are 'virgin' cells, meaning they are not form as heart cell, or liver cell, or some other organ cell, they are unform cell, o when is aboout some dissease or some malformation or leukemia they are working as repairing the other cells, they transform in any kind of cells.
that's why they are so importamt.

Sunday 16th of May 2010 05:39:42 AM The significance of the stem cells in the cord blood is that,they have a higher concentration compared to blood marrow stem cells,which is meaning that a smaller amount of stem cells are always needed. It also help in the preservation of your newborn's stem cells, which allows you to have your baby's cord blood saved.

Sunday 16th of May 2010 08:16:13 AM actually these cord cells are helpful in curing from cancer kind of deciese.If in case in future kid suffers from cancer then these cord cells will help the kid in curing from cancer. These cord blood bank collect the cord cells at the time of delivery of baby and store them for at leat 15 years or 20, 25 years depend on you till when you want to store those cells.

Monday 15th of March 2010 04:31:42 PM because the stem cells can become anything as you need, and they can be the answer for some future problems that the baby will present, or even some family problems, the stem cells are the major cells in the human body and they can divide and multiplicate themselves in their type of cells or others ceels as well.
