Can I Drink California Tap Water?
A few years back, there was a bunch of hub-bub in the media about not drinking tap water in California. At the time, I didn't pay too much attention because I lived in Georgia. Now that I am a pregnant Californian, should I avoid drinking water from the tap?

i personaly think you should avoid drink water from the tap not coz you l;ive in california but coz water from the tap is not great at all, they use so much chemical productos to clean the water and leave the water to be conditionaly safe to be drinked, but we all know that when we are pregnant we should try avoid be in contact with all sort of chemistry. so better start consum the mineral waters just in case.

Drinking tap water while pregnant may double the risk of serious heart or brain defects in the unborn child, research suggests. A study of almost 400,000 babies found a clear link between chemicals formed during chlorination and the occurrence of a trio of birth defects. Drinking water, showers, swimming pools and even the steam from a boiling kettle can all contain the problem chemicals called trihalomethanes, or THMs, the researchers said. While the study was carried out in Taiwan, it is thought up to one in six British homes is exposed to levels even higher than those found to cause concern, with concentrations tending to be particularly high in the spring and autumn. The researchers stressed it would be impractical for pregnant women to avoid tap water and said the onus was instead on the use of disinfection methods which limit levels of the chemicals.

There are millions who drink tap water. It is not unsafe as such. You can drink tap water there is no harm in it. If you are so precautious then you can use UV filters, use it and have good, clean safe drinking water. But I still feel you can consume california tap water without much haste, because the water supplied through taps are checked for various physical and chemical parameters before it is put to public use.
