What Is The Difference Between Otc And Prescribed Prenatal Vitamins?
Before I got pregnant I started taking over-the-counter prenatal vitamins that I bought at the drugstore. When I had my first visit my doctor gave me a prescription for vitamins. I filled the prescription and it cost $8 more than the OTC kind. Is there a big difference between OTC and prescription prenatal vitamins?

the difference between them are that the prescribed prenatal vitamins in the composition they reach the level's of vitamins you need during the OTC vitamins may be not the amouth that you need during this stage, and as long as you have a medical prescription you can maybe get the cover of the costs of this medications by your healthy issurance.

If you are planning to conceive or are already on the family way, taking prenatal vitamins is a must. Prenatal vitamins provide important minerals and nutrients that help support a healthy pregnancy. The biggest difference between over-the-counter drugs and prescription prenatal vitamins is the amount of folic acid they contain. Many prescription prenatal vitamins contain 1.0 mg folic acid (1000 mcg) while many over-the-counter prenatal vitamins contain less or approximately 800 mcg of folic acid. Folic acid is especially important during the first three months of pregnancy because it helps your body produce healthy blood cells.

Yes of 'course there is difference. With OTC you will be uneasy and doubtfuls if it will be good for you and your baby. While with prescribe prenatal vitamains, you will be confident that it is good for you and your baby. During pregnancy we should be always careful that we take the appropriate vitamins, rather than OTC. Remember safety should be always the first issue to have a healthy baby.
