Urinary Tract Infections During Pregnancy
|
I am 11 weeks pregnant. Before I became pregnant, I had never had a Urinary Tract Infection. Since I've been pregnant I have been treated for 2 UTI's. How can I prevent another infection? Will these repeat infections hurt my baby?

Monday 15th of February 2010 01:18:27 AM Yes it can. My stepsister had this problem during her entire pregnancy. The reason she kept having her UTIs was she refused to go to the bathroom as often as her body needed. While pregnant, of course, the toilet is your best friend either for morning sickness and that incredibly small bladder that comes with the baby package. As she had the need to pee four times during the middle of the night, she refused to go. And that's how she got her UTI.
For advice, I suggest to watch your diet, hydrate yourself as often as you can and maintain very good hygiene.

Wednesday 17th of February 2010 01:19:16 AM I am not sure if you can prevent them. I think it is caused because of your growing uterus pressing on your bladder and tubes. And as the uterus is only going to grow more I am not sure if it might remain a problem throughout your pregnancy. What did your gyna or midwife say about this? They must have seen this with other pregnant ladies and have some helpful advice for you.

Thursday 18th of February 2010 03:21:19 PM Yes those repeated infections could make harm on your kid, even the treatment you take could affect your child.
To prevent these infections you need to drink more then 2L. of water. Many liquids would clear your urinary tract.the urine is full of salt and other substances and those are not eliminated very well in pregnancy , that's why you need to drink more liquids.

Tuesday 2nd of March 2010 11:15:15 AM Always drink a lot of water and visit the restroom often. Don't hold it in. You may be having more trouble in the bathroom as your belly grows but make sure you wipe from the front towards the back. As long as it is treated correctly and early, your baby is safe.

Tuesday 16th of February 2010 08:27:44 PM I had 2 UTI's during my pregnancy. The doctor said it is normal because our urinary tract is compressed as the baby grows in our tummy. There are high chances of reoccurrence and the best you can do is to drink lots of water like 2 liters a day. It can make you pee every now and then but it really helps in neutralizing bacteria in your urine. Also it helps in your skin elasticity to prevent stretch marks.
