Pregnant With An Iud In Place
|
I have been using an IUD for the past 2 years. I 3 weeks late for my period. I just took a home pregnancy test and had a positive result. How did this happen? Will I have a miscarriage? Can I have the IUD removed and still have a healthy pregnancy?

Tuesday 16th of February 2010 11:04:57 PM IUD is never 100% safe so there is a risk of pregnancy. As you know are pregnant you will have to decide (fast) if you want to keep this pregnancy. If YES, you need to contact your GP immediately and have the IUD removed. The longer you wait the higher the risk of a miscarriage. So please move fast.

Wednesday 17th of February 2010 07:09:40 AM Of every 100 women using the IUD, about 1 to 3 pregnant during the first year of use. The IUD is a highly effective method (99%) whose complications are very unusual, its main function is to prevent the meeting of the egg and sperm, probably avoiding it moves through the female reproductive system, which reduces the possibility that it conduct a fertilization. However there are some rare cases where women get pregnant, so it is best to consult your doctor and know the consequences and benefits of pregnancy.

Wednesday 17th of February 2010 02:58:44 PM when we use IUD as the only means of contraception and have a healthy sexual life there is a chance of getting pregnant. no contraception method is hundred percent so it is always advisable to use more than one method at a time. sure you can have IUD removed and still have a healthy pregnancy , it is always advisable to remove the IUD if you are pregnant.

Thursday 18th of February 2010 04:19:24 AM As I understand, an IUD has a relatively high risk of failure, therefore, unexpected pregnancies do occur. You will be, perhaps, at a higher risk for a ectopic (tubal) pregnancy. I think you should see a doctor as soon as possible. Most doctors will remove the IUD as soon as they confirm the pregnancy. I think that, provided your doctor agrees, that you could still have a healthy pregnancy.

Thursday 18th of February 2010 12:46:14 PM I got pregnant with an IUD. Its possible but its not common. You need to consult your doctor right away. Your doctor will safely remove the IUD and you will have every chance at a happy healthy pregnancy. Birth control is effective but it's not always bullet proof!

Tuesday 2nd of March 2010 09:30:27 AM IUD's do not guarantee 100% prevention and they have a tendency to dislodge. Copper IUD's, in particular has a 0.8% failure rate. It can be removed, it was designed that way but there are risks. See your doctor as soon as possible for a pregnancy test and an IUD exam.
