Saturday 20th of March 2010 03:25:45 AM We all know how important a good diet is in maintaining a healthy pregnancy. After all, your baby relies on you for the vitamins, nutrients, and calories he needs throughout his development. A good pregnancy diet is well-balanced and addresses you and your baby’s specific needs. Omega 3 rich foods are particularly essential. Omega 3 foods can provide your baby with the energy and materials necessary to good physical and mental growth. Omega-3s are also important for your own health and well-being during pregnancy.
What does a baby really need in the first weeks at home? The answer is - not much. This baby needs checklist will help you choose the basic baby items, often called a layette, that a baby needs to have in the first precious weeks of life.
Baby Needs: Clothing and Layette
5-10 Onesies® or rompers, depending on how often you want to do laundry
5-7 baby sleepers or nightgowns
1 cold weather sleeper if necessary
5-7 pairs of baby socks
1-2 newborn hats, depending on climate
Baby Needs: Diapers and Bath Items
2 packs of disposable diapers or enough cloth diapers for at least two days. Newborns can soil up to 10 diapers per day.
1 pack of disposable wipes or 10 cloth wipes
Waterproof pad for diaper changes
3-5 baby washcloths
1-2 hooded towels, if desired. Adult towels will work, too.
1 bottle of gentle baby wash
Baby nail clippers
Digital thermometer
Baby Needs: Bedding and Feeding
3-4 fitted sheets for crib, cradle, cosleeping bassinet or traditional bassinet
5-7 lightweight blankets
1-2 heavier blankets, depending on climate
10 burp cloths
5-8 bottles, if you're bottle feeding
Breastfeeding pillow, if desired
That's it! While there are many baby products on the market that make a parent's life easier, most are wants, not needs. While it may be tempting to buy every gadget on the shelf, remember, your baby will be just as happy with the basic items that he or she really needs.

Saturday 20th of March 2010 10:16:51 AM Congratulation :-) When I found out that Im having a baby, just like you I immediately wanted to shop. But when shopping always consider the essentials and the possible season you will be giving birth. Well on my case, I was set to give birth on the summer months. So I made sure that I bought 3 dozens of cloth diapers (cause babies tend to have rashes using disposable ones specially during the hot summer months), clips for the cotton diapers, sleeveless shirts that have little ties on them (buttons are more difficult to wear on the little ones), a couple of shorts sleeves and long sleeves shirts just in case, some mittens, cotton shorts and pajamas, socks and or booties, a cotton hat (to be worn when going out), a couple of blankies with hoods (for bathing), nursing bottles (the short ones), bottle and nipple brushes, sterilizer, unscented soaps for bath time, ethyl alcohol (because isopropyl alcohol have a very strong smell and sometimes irritates the respiratory), cotton swabs and cotton balls, bolsters for the baby's bed, and a lot of maternity napkins for you :-)
