I need help figuring out what pregnancy month I am in. I am 6 weeks along right now. Is a pregnancy month determined by calendar months or 4 weeks per month?

Saturday 20th of March 2010 03:13:21 AM If you are confused, you're not alone. While some people talk about pregnancy being 9 months long (divided into three trimesters), most health care providers refer to pregnancy as being 40 weeks long, starting with your last menstrual period (LMP).
40 weeks = 9 months ¦ 4.445 weeks = 1 month
A normal pregnancy lasts 280 days from your LMP which is about 266 days from conception to birth. The first two weeks of your pregnancy includes the time of your period, ovulation and fertilization. Conception occurs approximately 14 - 16 days after the first day of your period.
Many women also find it easier, when asked how pregnant they are, to answer in weeks instead of months, because pregnancy is generally a count down. “I am 24 weeks, only 16 weeks to go!” The most general deduction by a bystander would be that the woman is already six months pregnant, when in actuality, per the Gregorian calendar that most of the world lives by, she is only about five and a half months pregnant.
Women who consider themselves 10 months pregnant usually use this form of calculations:
WEEKS MONTH
1-4 1
9-12 3
17-20 5
25-28 7
33-36 9

Saturday 20th of March 2010 02:13:52 PM The best you can do is going to see a doctor. It is very important in these weeks because the major risk of loss is before the week 10. The best way to determine the week you are is with a blood test. Other good method is an ecography, but normally are useless before the week 8, because baby is too small to see it.

Sunday 21st of March 2010 02:09:22 AM Actually it is based on the weeks though people say delivery takes place in the 10th month, it is generally based on weeks, to make it easier it is observed in months. You ultrasound report would tell the number of weeks. Delivery usually occurs about 38 weeks after conception. Hence accorindingly you can convert your period to months or weeks as deemed necessary.
