I'm 10 Weeks Pregnant - Prenatal Vitamins Making Me Sick
|
My prenatal vitamins are making me so sick. I'll be fine until I take them. I've tried taking the with different things and at different times. I am having a hard time making myself take them. I don't have another appointment for 2 weeks. Can I stop taking my vitamins at 10 weeks pregnant and then ask my doctor for a new kind at my next appointment?

Tuesday 2nd of March 2010 12:01:28 PM The best time I found to take prenatal vitamins is just before bed. Then, if I started to feel sick, at least I could sleep it off! Another thing to try would be to take your vitamins just every other day. As your pregnancy progresses, the nausea should ease off. If you are throwing up, go ahead and stop until your appointment.

Friday 12th of March 2010 08:13:27 AM I'm not sure about what is the best option, the vitamins are completly important in that moment, not only for you to stay healthy but for your baby as well, coz some vitamins work over how the fetus is going to develop, so my advise is try handle more 2 weeks, if you are getting sick to thep point you can not handle keep taking the vitamins so its up to you choose what to do. happy pregnancy to you dear, hope i have helped a lil.

Tuesday 16th of March 2010 07:09:41 PM Congratulations! Yes it is perfectly alright to stop taking the prenatal vitamins for two weeks. Typically it is the iron in the prenatals that cause women to feel sick or make morning sickness worse. In fact unless there are other medical reasons requiring you to take them without fail, you can find alternatives to prenatals which are gentler on the stomach like chewable multivitamins and/or gummy vitamins. You could also request some free prenatal supplement samples from your health practitioner for you to try that are iron free or have a lower dosage of iron. In the meantime, however, I would strongly recommend you continue to take Folic Acid(400mcg minimum per day)as this is an important supplement that helps in your baby's development especially in the first trimester. Good luck!
