I'm Having Back Pain In Early Pregnancy.
|
I have been having atrocious back pain in early pregnancy. I'm 7 weeks along and I can't shake this terrible pain in my lower back. All of the stuff that I've read says that back pain is common towards the end of pregnancy? Is it normal to have back pain in early pregnancy and what can I do about it?

Tuesday 16th of March 2010 08:59:15 AM This is normal in early pregnancy and as the uterus is better supported by the pelvic but after about 20 weeks or so this would settled.
But if it is unbearable then in first sight consult your doctor otherwise for the back pain, may I recommend Elizabeth Noble's book: "Essential Exercises for the Childbearing Year,". I would not give up exercise, but try those recommended in Noble's book, which are back sparing. Walking is still fine, but running can be hard on the back. Pelvic rock, bridging (on the floor with knees bent and lifting the buttocks into air), mini-crunches with bent knees and lifting the head on exhalation are good. Posture and good body mechanics are important to remember. Avoid bending over and curving your back, especially when lifting. Keep the curve in your lower back and your shoulders back. "Williams' exercises" are good, and most clinics have copies of these.

Thursday 4th of March 2010 05:57:16 PM although itis more common for back pain to occur during 3rd trimester, it can happen anytime, especially if there has been rapid weight gain. The pelvic muscles are stretching. You can take over the counter tylenol to help with the pain. you may do gentle yoga or water therapy exercises, indluding swimming. You may also try tai-chi. There are even some masseus that are registered and specialize on pregnant women massages. Other home remedies that may help is using a soft stretch velcro support belt or garder. However, if pain persists despite above or there are signs of weakness in one or both legs or you notice numbness or tingling in one or both legs or develop problems with hesitation in starting urine flow...call your doctor immediatelty.
