Is Pregnancy Massage Really Okay?
|
I have been considering having a pregnancy massage. I have been really run down trying to keep up with work, home, and my kids and my husband said I should do something special. I love to get massages, but I heard that there are certain places on a woman's body that if they are stimulated can cause labor. I'm only 29 weeks, so that makes me nervous. Is it true or is it garbage? Is it safe for me to get a pregnancy massage?

Friday 12th of March 2010 05:55:25 AM I think it is safety to you get a pregancy massage as long as you go to find out a specialist to do that, many therapist has not all qualifications to offer this massage safety for you. the prenatal massage has many benefits as long as you get the right specialist to do it, some doctors don't prescribe the pregnancy massage specialy in the first trimester when you have the potential risks to miscarriage.

Tuesday 16th of March 2010 08:00:30 AM As a prenatal massage instructor for over 13 years, nothing gets my goat more than outragious myths, and this is definitely one of them. The key is to find a certified pregnancy massage therapist. She/he will massage you during all the trimesters following appropriate protocol for each. In the first trimester the only big no-no is doing massage work directly over the lower pelvic area near the uterus. Other than that the therapist will modify the treatment depending on the woman's needs. A relaxing full body massage can give the woman much needed rest, reduce muscle tension, and prepare the woman for the impending musculoskeletal changes of pregnancy. There is significant research done on the positive effects of massage during pregnancy, the best of which is shorter labor. Massage during the entire pregnancy is a must!!

Wednesday 17th of March 2010 04:15:40 PM I actually think it is a good idea for you to have a pregnancy massage. The places that offer these usually have them tailored to the different stages of pregnancy. If you are really concerned you cousl ask your doctor if there are any areas that should avoid being stimulated and then asl the masseuse to avoid them.
