Missed Abortion-how Could This Happen?
|
I had an ultrasound today and there was nothing in my uterus. I should be 12 weeks along, and when my doctor couldn't pick up the baby's heartbeat with a doppler, he did an ultrasound. He couldn't find any evidence of a pregnancy anymore. He called it a missed abortion. Did I do something to cause this "missed abortion" or did it happen on its own?

Thursday 11th of March 2010 06:05:09 PM The causes of missed abortion are generally the same as those causing spontaneous abortion. Causes include anembryonic gestation (blighted ovum), fetal chromosomal abnormalities, maternal disease, embryonic anomalies, placental abnormalities, and uterine anomalies. Virtually all spontaneous abortions are preceded by missed abortion, so the answer to your question, is no its not something that you can cause or do anything that causes the miscarriage, and it happened on its own.
