Overweight And Want To Conceive
|
I am about 40 pounds overweight. My husband and I have decided to start trying to get pregnant. Are there any significant risks to the baby or me because I am overweight? What are they?

Monday 15th of February 2010 12:54:33 AM I am overweight myself but I got pregnant easily. While reading a heap of books, I found out that being overweight has a bunch of risks. Number one risk is preeclampsia. Your blood pressure is at risk and both you and the baby could go under more complications because of this. Gestational Diabetes is another risk. This is a kind of diabetes that happens only during pregnancy. Again, this poses a risk to you and your baby.
Plus there is a whole list of things your baby could be at risk for just because you are overweight. The best thing you can do is to try lose some weight and get a little healthier. This will make for a pregnancy with extremely lesser risks and a smoother ride all throughout.

Tuesday 16th of February 2010 05:47:37 AM Actually there is, but I don't think 40 lbs would be a big hindrance of getting pregnant. Though being fat can be one of the things that can make it harder for you to conceive. You may want to ask a OB-GYN to make sure that you're weight will not be a bad thing for your plans of getting pregnant

Tuesday 16th of February 2010 07:58:34 PM Yes, if you are overweight therefs high risk that your reproductive system is also fat and you produce low fertilized egg counts. Before you think about the baby, think first how you are going to get pregnant. Also think that when you become pregnant youfd add more weight so youfll have difficulty during the labor and delivery. Lose weight first so you produce healthy eggs.

Tuesday 16th of February 2010 10:34:36 PM Not sure about the risk, I guess it is not ideal. I do know that it is likely to be more difficult for you to conceive if you are that much overweight. And don't forget if you get pregnant, you will even get heavier. May be a first step in the 'trying to get pregnant' process is to try to loose a few pounds.
One of my friends (overweight) tried to get pregnant for more than a year. When nothing worked she went to a gyna and the first thing he made her do was loose weight before he wanted to start any other procedure. May be worthwhile thinkig about.

Monday 1st of March 2010 02:00:53 PM I know a lot of obese woman who are pregnant and doesn't find anything wrong about them bearing a child. Though of course it may be sometime before you CAN conceive, others take years before so why can't you. Being overweight has nothing to do with being pregnant but getting pregnant is a different case. Try your best, keep it healthy and watch your diet. You'll be okay and soon have a baby.
