Worried, Not Enough Weight Gain During Pregnancy
I am naturally a petite woman and I am afraid because I haven't had enough weight gain during pregnancy. The books say I should have gained around 20 pounds already, and I've barely gained 10. I am almost 7 months pregnant and I hardly look pregnant. I have a small baby bump, but that's about it. My doctor keeps asking me if I'm eating enough. I'm eating a varied diet like I'm supposed to. Is it that I am not getting enough calories? What is so important about weight gain during pregnancy, anyway?

As long as your weight does not affect the baby, it is okay if you don't gain much weight. The weight we gain depends on our body structure. When you body structure or bone structure is big, then you will really gain weight during pregnancy. But if you're a petite woman, then it is impossible for you to gain more weight. Your bone structure i'm sure is also petite.

weight gain is all about the baby and how healthy or unhealthy you are. If you are skinny, you need to put more weight on than a normal woman as this can have a direct impact on your bones. Likewise, if you are overweight, you need to put less weight on to decrease your chances of complications. As long as you are eating well, there shouldnt be an issue.

The thing about being pregnant is that the baby will take everything it needs from you-it's like a parasite thing. As long as you are eating a well balanced diet-a diabetic diet is really the healthiest way to go. I was diagnosed with gestational diabeties, and after I started the diabetic diet I actually lost weight. It was nice to walk out of the hospital with my beautiful baby boy, and be smaller than I was before. Try eating small meals several times a day, and keep going to your appointments. Ask your OB to do another sonogram to make sure the baby is as big as he/she is suposed. You may just have a little baby, and if you are really small that would be a good thing when it comes to delivery. I imagine by now you want to have a big pregnant belly (I loved the way I looked pregnant), and you will get your belly, too-it will probably hit all at once. Just keep eating right and taking care of yourself, and talk to your OB if you are still concerned.
