Can Breastfeeding Prevent Pregnancy?
My friend said that breastfeeding can prevent a subsequent pregnancy. I have a 6 week old and I want to be intimate with my husband. I don't want to take the pill because I have chosen to breastfeed. Can breastfeeding really prevent pregnancy?

The answer is yes and no. If you are breastfeeding exclusively, and you have not yet had your period, it is 80 percent effective as birth control. But I wouldn't count on it. Consider other "nonchemical" forms of birth control, such as condoms. Unless you are looking forward to another baby very soon!

Actually, it depends on your body reaction. Breastfeeding alone does not mean that in this way you can prevent pregnancy especially if your intimately active. I suggest you consult first your ob gyne before you can have intimate actions to your husband, since you have just given birth for less than two months. And for my personal experience, maybe the wound from giving birth is not yet healed. Frankly speaking, please enjoy first your baby for now, then in a couple of months you can have intimacy with your husband.

The fact that breastfeeding does not prevent you from being intimate with her husband, but let me tell you that is likely to become pregnant again.

Breastfeeding is an unreliable form of contraception as it depends on you feeding your child to strict regular timings in order for it to work. The chances of getting pregnant while breastfeeding are low but many women can and do get pregnant. See your Dr for alternative forms of contraception such as the implant which can be used during breastfeeding, or Noriday, a pill that can also be used at this time.

Yes it is BUT only when the baby is below 24 weeks, you don't have your menstruation back yet and your baby is 24 hours continuously being breastfed. It is because of the postpartum infertility called Lactational Amenorrhea. That's the natural birth control way but soon as you stopped breastfeeding your baby, your fertility is back on and you'll expect for the next pregnancy.
