by eating healthily. You only need an additional 300 calories a day - which is the equivalent of 2 large bananas. Don't use butter, oil or lots of sugar in your cooking and steam, boil, roast, stir fry or grill rather than fry food. If you are underweight, you will need to put on alot more weight - check with your ob how much is healthy for you, but either way, it should be with eating more quality food rather than eating junk. And walk at least 30 mins a day.

Many mothers are concerned that exercise and running can harm the baby. Intense workouts can be harmful but there are alternatives. Aquatic exercising is popular with fit moms who want to stay active. Weight loss is very dangerous to the baby unless you have already gained weight. You have to allow for water weight, and the baby weight. Depending on the baby's size, you should allow 8-10 pounds water weight and the same for the baby. Anything over that and you can moderate your weight to stay fit and to help from gaining weight post pregnancy.

You need to gain a certain amount of weight in order to have a healthy baby. You should expect to gain at least 30 pounds. If your doctor is concerned that you are underweight, you may need to sacrifice your desire for being thin in favor of gaining some extra weight. Most of this weight will disappear shortly after the baby is born. Keep exercising, and within a few weeks of the baby being born you will be surprised how quickly your body will respond and bounce back again.
