X Rays
|
I am suppose to undergo dental treatment involving about four to five X rays. Worried if this will effect my pregnancy in any ways? I am two months pregnant. My friend suggested to avoid this.

Tuesday 2nd of March 2010 09:37:21 PM If pregnant is always best to avoid X-rays at any stage if not absolutely necessary. X-rays are worst during first trimester (which is where you are)because of potential for fetal abnormalities. However,If dentist insists that these are necessary at this time because of dental problem which can't wait until you deliver or are further advanced in your pregnancy...he can double shield the stomach/pelvic area for fetal protection.

Wednesday 3rd of March 2010 03:41:41 PM you definitely need to avoid this work now.You are not allowed in any circumstances to make x-ray now.Until 3 months old those x-ray are totally forbidden for pregnant women.
You need to mention that you are pregnant .I am sure the dentist won't ask you to do x-ray if he knows this matter.

Sunday 7th of March 2010 02:05:49 AM i KNOW OF SOME PROTECTION GOWN USED BY DENTAL TECHNICIANS DURING X-RAY ON PREGNANT WOMEN. HOWEVER, THIS IS NOT A GUARANTEED FACT BECAUSE WE DON'T KNOW THE ACCIDENTS THAT MAY HAPPEN. THE BEST THING TO DO IS CONSULT YOUR OBSTETRICIAN FIRST AND WHATEVER INSTRUCTIONS SHE HAS HAS TO BE RELAYED TO YOUR DENTIST.

Wednesday 24th of February 2010 06:18:48 PM The first thing you need to do is tell your dentist that you are pregnant. He or she will then arrange for you to have the minimum number of x-rays using a special lead vest to wear over your chest and tummy area. This is perfectly safe and will mean that there is no harm to the baby. If they are not happy about doing the X-rays, then they may postpone them until after delivery assuming that your problem can wait this long.

Monday 1st of March 2010 10:11:35 PM I have had dental work done while I was pregnant. Just make sure and tell your dentist when you go in for the work that you are pregnant. They can shield your baby from the xrays, as long as they know about it. I wouldn't worry about any side effects.
