Car Travel

As my stomach grows car travel is becoming more and more uncomfortable. I am a short woman and I am having to adjust the seat back so far that I can barely touch the pedals. I am uncomfortable as a passenger too. The pressure from my seatbelt is very uncomfortable and I'm afraid it is hurting the baby. Is it okay for me not to wear my seatbelt anymore? Are the airbags more of a danger than a safety feature at this point?

Sunday 28th of February 2010 02:05:58 AM It is never okay not to wear you seatbelt. To provide a bit of comfort, there are several seat belt covers that will do just that.
Made of sheepskin or other synthetic fibers, these covers will provide your chest, shoulders, and parts of your belly with a comfy barrier between the rough seatbelt.
There have been some concern with the safety of a pregnant woman and airbags. To cut the risk of an activated airbag, it has been suggested that Moms to be push their chairs back as far back as possible and lean the seat back slightly as well. Or simply sit in the back of the vehicle.
Even with all these precautions, if you are not able to reach the car's pedal, I found that sitting on a seat cushion lengthens the legs, still allowing you to reach the pedals with ease.

Wednesday 3rd of March 2010 07:30:22 AM In driving or riding a car, it is very important to use a seatbelt. Seatbelts are very helpful in case of accidents. Nobody should drive or ride in a car without using seatbelts for it will help you to stay where you are than being thrown out during an accident.

Sunday 21st of February 2010 06:54:43 PM Never ever drive without a seatbelt - it is dangerous. What you should do is place the lower part of the belt under the tummy and the other part over the bump and under both arms. Only adjust the seat as far as is safe - if you can't reach the pedels, you will need someone to drive you. It's not worth the hassle or the danger of not being able to drive properly. Airbags can cause trauma to any person depending on the nature of the impact. There is nothing you can do at this point, although the plus point here would be that the airbag would prevent serious injury to the stomach caused by the steering wheel.

Tuesday 2nd of March 2010 03:56:13 PM I am not sure about the US legislation regarding safety in cars but I can tell you in pregnancy the seat belt could be more dangerous then not wearing it.When the car stopped suddenly, without being a dangerous for the safety of the passengers it could be dangerous for pregnant women.the pressure of the seat belt on your belly could harm your baby

Saturday 6th of March 2010 11:45:06 PM If driving is causing you comfort, it is not advisable for your to drive anymore. Thousand of accidents happen on the road and you wouldn't like that either. And the airbags won't help you here as it is more dangerous for you. Being a passenger is also uncomfortable for you, so why not stay at the back instead and you get to use a seat belt that crosses your lap.
