Waterbirths
My hospital has labor suites that are equipped with large birthing baths. I am curious about waterbirths, but really don't know much about them. Are there health benefits to waterbirths or is it more for comfort? Can I have an epidural and still deliver in the birthing tub?

I can tell you from experience that having a birth in water is great. I had my daughter with the help of the shower and I can only guarantee that the hot water in addition to being a great reliever of pain helps the baby to be born. I advise this method 100%.

As I know the waterbirth is very beneficial for the baby first. The expulsion is not so harsh as the baby come into this world in a familiar medium so it starts to swim naturally. As about the epidural I won't advice yo do to, it could have more second effects and another positive effect water have, it help you when you have contractions you won't feel so painfully those contractions. I advice you to do that. But if you consider to do it you will need to announce the doctor before so he will prepare you for this. good luck!

The whole point of the birthing tub is to calm the body down and relax yourself through contractions. Many women feel a sense of relief sitting in the water. Some women only use the pool in the final stages of labour as they are ready to deliver. Having an epidural during this is not viable as once the epidural is done, you will not be able to feel anything or even move your legs - hence you will not be able to get in and out of the pool.

In my opinion taking epidural and using the birthing tub is too much. The fact that you will use the birth tub to give birth is already a total comfort and so relaxing for both of you. But of course, you and your doctor can talk about this before hand.
