There are over the counter tests you can buy that are able to tell you from the first day of your missed period whether or not you are pregnant. They are accurate to about 96%. With any pregnancy test, there is always a margin of error. It is better to wait at least two weeks after a missed period before deciding on taking the test.

Yes. You can take the test as early as two days from the sexual act. Four days is enough time although for a more accurate test you should get a blood test done. The ones you buy from the store can be faulty for women even 4 months pregnant. So if you want to be absolutely sure, you should go to a clinic and get a blood pregnancy test done.

According to the EPT early detection pregnancy test, you can take this particular test as early as four days before your next menstural cycle is due. All pregnancy test are not the same, so if you want a quicker response and one that is more accurate than others, then EPT early pregnancy test is the one to choose. To get the most accurate results, take the test first thing in the morning, since the hormone beta-HCG - which is what the test measures - is most concentrated this time of the day.

Normally they recommend at least 12 days after your last menstruation that you can have this pregnancy test. However, I know of a couple of women who just did checked whether they are pregnant or not in a matter of 5 days and both were found to be positive. So I guess that depends on the real cycle of menstruation, you might have counted it wrong. That's a possibility.
