Donating Blood
I routinely donate blood to the red cross. I've heard that women have increased blood volume during pregnancy. Is it safe to continue donating blood throughout my pregnancy. If not, how soon after I deliver can I resume donations?

definitely you can not donate blood while you are pregnant.you could do this after the delivery, but if you chose to breastfeed you would have to wait until you stop breastfeeding.it is forbidden for a woman who breastfeed to donate blood. A little time to wait!you will be ready soon!good luck!

It isn't recommended to give blood during pregnancy as this can result in anaemia for the mother and possibly the baby. Most blood centres will refuse to take blood from an expectant mother. When you deliver a baby, you lose alot of blood, so donating then is not a good idea either. You need to at least have your post-natal check up and discuss this with your Dr first before deciding to donate blood.

It is definitely not a good idea to give blood when you are pregnant. There is a reason you have increased blood volume--you are creating a new little person! When you resume donations depends somewhat on whether or not you are breastfeeding. This puts extra stress on your body. After your baby is born, discuss with your doctor when it would be appropriate to start donating again.

Some doctors do not allow this but others just say yes since they know how healthy you are. You'll find this out as soon as you've checked with your obstetrician. Your ob-gyne will give you a complete a analysis of your health including your blood and more in the position to tell you all there is.
