Can A Relationship Change Between You And Your Child If You Hire A Babysitter?
|
I have to start work again, but I am reluctant to hire a babysitter, I feel this will alter my relationship with my baby. Should I take more time off, or will by baby who is now 8 months be perfectly happy with another person?

RajeeSreeni Tuesday 23rd of March 2010 01:56:47 AM The worry is natural for any mother! Being a 8 months old baby, your child would have had a deep connection with you by now. It may be little hard for both of you to cope up during inital few days. But, things will work out for better once the child starts accepting the babysitter.
Though the child will get attached to the babysitter in few days, this will, definitely, not alter his/her relationship towards you - unless, you totally, neglect the child and is not having any connection for days together.
In India, people still practise joint-family system, where a babysitter, typically, will be the grandparant of the child. Though the child spends most of the time with the grandparent, he/she will not loose interest towards the mother.
I would suggest you to spend time during those initial days, to monitor & facilitate the babysitter to build a rapport with your child. Also, choosing a right babysitter is more important in this aspect. Give frequent, surprise visits initally until you gain confidence over the babysitter. This way you ensure the wellbeing of your child.
To sum up, this system will definitely work out, once you find the right babysitter & also, spend quality time with your kid after you are back from work.
