New Job And Maternity Leave

I just started a new job 2 months ago. I just found out that I am pregnant. This was really unexpected and now I'm afraid that I will be fired or that I won't be able to take a maternity leave. Do I have any rights or should I just plan on needing a new job after the baby comes?

Tuesday 2nd of March 2010 01:34:57 PM Actually there is no such rule or rights reserved for women as such regarding the maternity leave.I personally feel that you must take a special care of yourself at present during pregnancy as over exertion may terribbly affect the child.And then after nine monthes you can seaqrch for a good job.But still if you are in a need of job now you may work upto 3-4 monthes of this period with special care.

Sunday 28th of February 2010 06:17:54 AM Every job requires that you are employed with them for a certain amount of time before you are granted a paid maternity leave. Since you have only been there for two months, you haven't even passed the probation period of 3 months in which an employer can dismiss you without having to give any reasoning. If you can stick it out with that company for the majority of the pregnancy, you will have been there for at least 6 months and while you won't get paid maternity leave you can request a leave of absence and discuss with your employer the likelyhood of you still having a job when you come back.

Tuesday 2nd of March 2010 01:24:19 PM You are protected by federal law to be allowed to have maternity leave without losing your job. I think the best thing to do is to talk to your boss as soon as possible. Offer to help prepare any way possible for the time you will be away. Be sure to tell your boss how much you appreciate your job--Unless you really don't like your job, then you can use your baby as an excuse to quit!

Saturday 20th of February 2010 07:47:02 AM Any employer must honour their terms of contract with an employee,hence they cannot fire you if you are pregnant - it's against the law. As for maternity leave, you need to check your company policy (see HR) as to the minimum length of service before maternity pay is due. It is usually somewhere between 3 months and 2 years depending on the sector you are in.

Tuesday 2nd of March 2010 04:39:06 PM I am pretty sure you have a legislation on this field, but as in many countries a pregnant woman is law protected.
You should keep the job but you have the responsabillity to announce your boss, in writing not verbally.
So your boss could not fired you on some odd reason.
look for the mother rights!

Saturday 6th of March 2010 09:25:18 PM It all depends on the kind of job you have and the contract that you have signed, if any. If your job is not conducive for a pregnant woman, you might as well look for another job. It it's not then I suggest you talk to your employer first and see what he has to say. It is better this way rather than worrying so much about it.
