I am in my 7th month of pregnancy and am growing increasingly uncomfortable. I was ready for the backache but I am surprised by how much pain I am having in my hips and pelvis. What is causing this and is there anything I can do to ease the pain?

The pain you are experiencing right now because your pelvis is separating at the symphas. Women's pelvices are made in two parts. Where they meet, it is called the pelvic symphasis. When you can see the light at the end of the tunnel, your pelvis starts separating to make it easier for the baby's head to pass through the birth canal. It hurts like hell, and it is pretty unnerving when you hear it pop...Just hang in there, the end is coming and the prize at the end is the most beautiful thing in the whole wide world.

The pain is caused by your joints loosening up in preparation for birth. Try and do as much walking or swimming as possible to strengthen the joints and keep you flexible. Place a pillow between the knees while sleeping to keep your pelvis aligned and avoid anything which can cause you strain in the hips and pelvis. If pain gets very bad, a hot water bottle and paracetamol will help. Or see your ob for more help and advice.

I can not tell you this, because I have asked my doctor about them, and he said I might experience some soft pain but not crucials one. I was hardly getting down from my bed, so uncomfortable the pains were. My guess those pains comes from the pregnancy is really down and press on some nerves there, so the really acute pain.

Your body is preparing for having your baby. Your pelvic bones and hips are loosening up in order to be able to deliver more easily. Also, you are carrying extra weight in your pelvic area where you haven't in the past. All of this leads to discomfort and pain. Make sure you take plenty of time to rest, drink plenty of fluids, and use Acetaminophen when the pain is really uncomfortable. I try to avoid Ibuprofen and aspirin.

7th month pregnancy is a very fragile stage. As a mom myself, I've through that stage and felt that pain in hips and pelvis, especially when I get pregnant with my twins. It is very hard to think how and what to do to ease that pain. But we all know that pregnant women should not take any pain relievers as it will cause some damage to the fetus. You feel that pain because our pelvic bone is being stretch and our hormones are adjusting. just bear with it and once the baby comes out, all the pain will be gone..

My experience will tell you that it is all part of being pregnant. The more the baby grows inside you the more it gets heavier and heavier. It stretches and stretches until he/she is ready to get out. I suggest no medication to ease the pain as I only lay down flat on my back or sit with both feet up.
