Are Children Usually Born With Congenital Heart Problems Or Can They Contract Them Anytime In Life?

As a child I suffered from hypo-plastic left heart syndrome. I know that I went through intensive treatment for it and successfully recovered. In my case I was born with it. But I want to know if children are usually born with them or they can contract the illness later in life?
