Do Muscular Disorders Lead To Heart Problems?

My son has had myotonic dystrophy for the past 2 and a half years and I can see that it is progressing. The progress is slow yet steady and I fear the worse. He is only 16 years old and I’m wondering will this affect his heart at any stage?
