How Should I Stop My Daughter From Biting Her Finger Nails?

My daughter is 4 years old now and we have been trying forever to stop her biting her nails. She has a perpetual habit of keeping her finger in her mouth and it annoys me so much because it makes her hands smell very bad. She is also very susceptible to viruses because of the same reason. How should I stop her from putting her fingers in her mouth?
