Dental Care During Pregnancy
I am 2 weeks into my third trimester and have a terrible toothache. I have never had problems with my teeth in the past. Can pregnancy cause dental problems. Will I need an x-ray? Is it safe to get one?

It's a possibility that you are not getting a sufficient amount of calcium. If this is the case, to provide your baby with what it needs, your body could be pulling all the calcium away from your teeth, causing them to hurt. The best thing to do is to seek out dental care and get a through examination. To determine the full scope of the problem, an x-ray may have to be taken. While it is suggested to keep x-rays at a minimum during pregancy, dental x-rays pose little to no danger since the x-ray is targeting the mouth area and no where else.

There are some women who are affected by these but I haven’t seen nor read any concrete studies about this. Mostly are speculations and have not been really proven at. Why do you need an x-ray? Is that what the dentist said? You better check with your obstetrician first before doing anything. Your obstetrician should know how to handle this better than a dentist.

During pregnancy, the body utilises calcium for the developing baby, and this can affect teeth causing bleeding gums, sensitivity and other problems. Dental treatment is offered free to pregnant women and new mothes until the baby reaches one years old. See your dentist who will advise you on the correct and safe treatment for you.

Yes preganancy can often cause dental problems, however you will not be given an x-ray. Since you are already in your third trimester you will probabably best wait till after the baby is born if xrays are needed. Your toothache may simply be a cavity so visit your dentist and they could very well do a temporary filling. If the tooth pain persists, after the baby is born and you have the an x-ray you may find that you need root canal.

yes, it could happened but it is not necessary that this comes because you are pregnant. i had 2 pregnancy and I had any problem on my teeth.Although after delivery and on breast feeding I start to have some problems.not much but i discovered dark spots on my teeth. Take care of your dental health. As about x-ray they are possible after 3 months old but there is not indicated.
