Do I Have The Right To Step In?
I'm worried for my new grandbaby. My son is 24, and doesn't have a job. On top of that, he and his girlfriend are both into marijuana use on a regular basis. I don't think that they are fit parents. Do I have a right to step in, and how?

If you are willing to take custody of your grandchild then you have every right to step in. The courts prefer children to stay in their family instead of being seperated. You would have to prove that the parents are unfit and also prove that you are fit. Drug use is definitely something that could prove they ate unfit but be careful. If you get a sympathetic judge who thinks the child should stay with the parents, they might be able to keep the child with promises of rehabilitation. As a grandparent however, you are the first alternative to the birth parents that the court would look at.
