What Do I Pack For A Scheduled C-section
Because of a pregnancy complication, my doctor has scheduled me for a c-section. I have looked all over for a list of things to pack and can't find anything specific to the needs of a post c-section mommy. Is there anything special I should take?

I have had three C-Sections so I have mastered the list of things to bring to the hospital. You will want to find a nice comfortable night gown that buttons down the front. You will also need a bath robe that you can cover up with while you walk up and down the hall. When you have a C-Section they will make you get up several times a day and walk down the halls. You also want to take some house shoes or some comfortable socks. I would pack your laptop if you have one. There are going to be times when you will wish you had it. Typically for a C-Section they will make you stay for a minimum of three days.

Just the usual for any delivery. What you would bring extra, I advise, would be a abdominal binder. Having a binder will be extra comfortable for you. It's not the things you bring to the hospital. Everything you would need would be in the hospital. It;s just how you would treat yourself. To make things easier though, get a nursing top or cover that wouldn't require you to lift up your shirt. If you can just pull your shirt down from the bottom or pull something to the side, so you don't have to brush against your abdomen. If you plan to breastfeed, that is.

What you normally and practical things you need to bring when you're suppose to check in to a hospital. Something comfortable, a sleeveless house dress is very much important as they will constantly check on your blood pressure. Extra sanitary napkin, toiletries, comfortable slippers as they will allow you to walk around before the operation. No need to bring a lot of stuff. Don't forget the baby's stuff that's important.

Having had two sections myself, two items I would definitely recommend would be large comfortable maternity knickers that sit high on your tummy, well above the pubic line which is where the C-Section scar would be. The other item would have to be a v shaped pillow to help with feeding your baby. You can also use the pillow for back support. One thing that they don't tell you about sections is that they cause severe gas pains as the stomach/bowels have to physically be pushed up to make room to deliver the baby. This irritates the lining of your gut causing severe gas pains and the anaesthetic can cause constipation. Believe you me its the worst feeling on the planet when you cant go as you have stitches to contend with and putting pressure on your bowels is a no-no. Get some peppermint tea to take with you and drink regularly after the birth. Also, get a laxative that is suitable for use after breastfeeding - if you can't go, this will certainly help. Good luck.

In addition to the other items to pack, there are some great undergarments called C-Panty that are made especially for mothers recovering from a c-section. Don't forget some really comfy, baggy gowns or maternity pants - since they won't sit on your incision. A boppy pillow if you are breastfeeding or bottlefeeding. This pillow is perfect since it helps your bond with baby, while preventing him or her from brushing against your incision.
