At What Age Should I Let My Son Hold A Spoon?

My son is trying to grab the spoon out of my hand when I feed him. He's 10 months old and I don't know if I should let him hold a spoon yet. I'm afraid that he will shove it too far back in his throat. How old should my baby be before I let him start holding his own spoon?
