Does Crying So Hard He Stops Breathing Hurt Him?

My 22 month old son has started throwing tantrums. He throws himself on the floor and wails. He'll cry so hard sometimes that he stops breathing for a few seconds. Can it hurt him when he cries so hard that he stops breathing?
