Reliability Of Ultrasound To Determine Gender
|
I just had my 20 week ultrasound and the technician said there is a very good chance that I am having a girl. I thought that ultrasounds were pretty reliable for determining the sex of a baby. Why wouldn't she commit to saying that I am definitely having a girl?

Wednesday 17th of February 2010 10:36:50 PM There is always room for error. I have three children and my first two ultrasound predictions were accurate. However, I was told that my third child was a girl all the way up until my deliver. I had six ultrasounds and every time they told me it was a girl. I was very surprised to hear "Its a boy" when I delivered. This happened two years ago so it wasn't like the technology was out dated!

Thursday 18th of February 2010 04:44:31 AM Ultrasounds still rely on the technician or the doctor being able to see the genitals of the baby.Sometimes tha baby is positioned in a way that makes it difficult to see the genitals clearly. Also sometimes the baby's umbilical cord can get in the way. The ultrasound merely reflects light and dark shadows so it is still up to interpretation by the technician.

Thursday 18th of February 2010 03:56:03 PM Because ultrasound does rely on some human judgement. And even experts get it wrong. My sister should have been a boy according to the technician - you can imagine the suprise when a girl popped out instead! There is nothing you can do to get a 100% accurate reading, which is why no technician will ever say for certain that it is a girl or boy.

Sunday 21st of February 2010 03:47:25 PM oh, they could mistaken even in the last months. It will depend on the baby positions so the doctor to see very good what is the gender.
sometimes some parts of the penis are very small so could be mistaken with a girl organs, that's why he can mistake on this issue.
don't worry you will definitely find out when the baby will be outside! LOL

Thursday 4th of March 2010 03:56:31 AM The ultrasounds is a very reliable equipment to know the gender of your baby as well as getting to know what else is inside of people. You have to understand that it is not the machine's defect nor the technician's but basically the baby's position at that time. The technician's comment is based on the experience as well as the baby's position. So don't be upset really.

Monday 22nd of February 2010 03:34:19 AM From my experience they are reliable in determining the sex of your baby. Perhaps at that visit she couldn't quite see very clearly. They usually confirm the sex of the baby at the next ultrasound as well. So a few checks are done first. Sometimes doctors just talk differently to the way we expect, or want them to! Ask your doctor questions if you need any clarifications.
